Rant: Non-English Movies

I prefer subtitles. I want to hear the native dialect, the visceral actor’s conviction in their original words. I’m willing to read and have all of the feels. Just let me do the work.

Voice overs? I can’t stand it. I loathe it. Detest it. Nothing infuriates me more than a monotone voice over, worse in an accent that doesn’t sync with the native language.

Case in point: The Ghost Bride (Netflix) Beautiful, elegant and sophisticated with the worst western English accent dub-overs I’ve ever encountered. It ruins the experience of what could be a spectacular series. I won’t know now because the voice overs and music are complete garbage. I gave it 30 minutes and spent that much time raging about why this is a terrible idea.
